If, by faith, you have already accepted the grace of Immanuel’s Presence in your life – of His saving work on your behalf – then let these reminders from Scripture restore your assurance of His Presence with you, of His pleasure at being with you, and of His promise to always be with you:

The Lord Is With YouGod was with Joseph when he was betrayed by his brothers.

  • Have you experienced a betrayal?
  • If you are in that place right now, you are not there alone.
  • Immanuel.  God is with you.

God was with Joseph when he was slave in the house of Potiphar.

  • Are you enslaved by anything right now?
  • Is there any form of bondage or captivity in your life or your spirit?
  • You are not there alone.
  • Immanuel.  God is with you.

God was with Joseph when he was accused for a crime he did not commit and was thrown into prison.

  • Have you been the victim of injustice?
  • Wrongly accused?
  • Being punished for something you did not do?
  • You are not there alone.
  • Immanuel.  God is with you.

God was with Moses when he was doing the most menial task imaginable:

  • tending sheep, out in the wilderness, alone.
  • Moses had been a prince! – he was royalty! –
  • one of the most important people in the empire!
  • Did you use to have a big, impressive title?
  • Were you kind of a big deal where you came from,
  • and now you feel like you’re barely even noticeable?
  • You are not alone in that place of anonymity.
  • Immanuel.  God is with you.

God is with you alwaysGod was with Joshua when he was called on to take Moses’ place of leadership and to lead the Hebrews into the Promised Land.

  • Has God called you to do something that is too big for you to accomplish?
  • Is there some task set before you for which your abilities are woefully inadequate?
  • You are not alone in that call.
  • Immanuel.  God is with you.

God was with Jehoshaphat, when he was called upon to take the puny little Israelite army into battle against three much larger armies that were far superior in both number and power.

  • Are you in the midst of a battle that God has called you to step into?
  • One where you are clearly the weaker opponent?
  • Your adversary stands before you,
  • and there is no humanly way possible for you to win?
  • You are not alone in the battle.
  • Immanuel.  God is with you.

And when Jesus’ arrival – the Advent of the Messiah – was announced to Joseph, the angel said, “they will call Him ‘Immanuel,’ which means, ‘God is with us.’ ”

My brothers and sisters, Where is God?  Where is God all throughout the rich history of the Bible?  Where is God in all these people’s stories?
