I want to explain a simple yet profound reality to you today. But I don’t want you to lose how profound this reality is in the midst of its simplicity. Here it is: God loves you.

God loves you!

It’s so simple, right? Until you start to realize, what an incomprehensible miracle God‘s love for us truly is!

Let’s look together at a few verses from Psalm 139 – verses 13-18 –

For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are Your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand — when I awake, I am still with You.

Psalm 139:13-18

I grew up in the love of the Lord – I’ve never known a day of my life apart from God’s love. Neither of my parents were churchgoing people, but my grandparents were, and I spent every Saturday night of my childhood at their house. Poppa would grill burgers, and then we would watch the Braves game on TBS. Grandmommie would wake us up on Sunday morning with a big breakfast, and then we would get dressed and head to church together.

From my youngest days, my grandparents – and my Sunday school teachers, and the Children’s ministry volunteers, and then the Youth ministry volunteers – they all taught me and showed me, week after week after week,

  • about God’s great love for me;
  • how Jesus came to save me from my sin;
  • how His loving sacrifice reconciles me back to God;
  • and how to put my faith in this loving Savior God.

Because of this, faith in Jesus never came difficult for me. Not because I was like a super-Christian or anything, but because people who loved me and wanted the best for me taught me the truth:

  • that we are all recipients of God’s amazing affection,
  • and that no matter how little we think we are worth, the God of the universe, the Almighty God, the One who thought us up, and who thought we were such a good idea that He went through with making us –
  • He ascribes the highest possible value to us!
  • He values our lives at the price of His only Son’s life.

We are beloved! We are cherished and treasured by the Almighty God of the universe!

Believing God loved me was not hard for me to accept at all. But believing God liked me – that took many years to accept.

In the next post, I’ll share from God’s Word about how not only does God love us, but He also likes us!
